Loggins & Messina "Vahevala" (1974)

    Несколько лет тому назад познакомился с длиннющей концертной версией вещицы под названием "Vahevala", которую сочинили и исполняли Loggins & Messina, и был впечатлён, потому что такие оригинальные мелодии (да со скрипочкой и флейтой) и сложные структуры песен мне по нутру. Да и как-то неожиданно, что музыку подобной стилистики можно так свернуть трубочкой и вытянуть в джем, уйти куда-то в размышления, в нашёптывания, вообще куда-то в иную реальность, а потом вынырнуть вдруг точно там, откуда ушли... Уже в 80-х так играть и исполнять уже никто не хотел, а если бы и захотел, то не сумел бы... Всё лучшее ушло в антиквариат, а заполонившее радио, ТВ, полки магазинов и плейлисты в смартфонах было не просто плохим, а отвратительным, чудовищным...

    Jim Messina, бывший участник Poco и Buffalo Springfield, как известно, вкалывал независимым музыкальным продюсером при Columbia Records до того, как ему в 1970 г. повстречался молодой малоизвестный певец, гитарист и композитор Kenny Loggins. Парни сблизились на основе схожести музыкальных мировоззрений и общности во многом другом, образовали дуэт, записали в общей сложности шесть студийных и два концертных альбома, объехали множество стран с концертами и мирно прекратили сотрудничество в 1976 г. В 2005 и 2009 гг. произошли реюнионы дуэта, о чём более подробно можно почитать на сайтах logginsandmessina и kennyloggins. 

   Композиция "Vahevala" (произносится как "ва-хи-ва-ла") вошла в трек-лист двойного концертного альбома дуэта под не слишком изобретательным названием "On Stage" (1974). Кенни позднее вспоминал, что он просто придумал это слово и оно им не только очень понравилось, но и вдохновило на сюжет к песне. А до этого его (слова "Vahevala") вообще не существовало. Кенни говорит: "Оно привлекло моё внимание, потому что звучало как некая таинственная местность, поэтому я представил его как остров из фэнтези... Что наиболее примечательно для меня, когда я оглядываюсь назад, так это то, сколько радости в этом". Альбом "On Stage" переиздавался неоднократно и во многих странах.

Узнал только, что в 1972 г. в ряде стран (США, Соединённом Королевстве, Нидерландах, Испании, Югославии) вышел миньон "Vahevala / Same Old Wine". Приятно также было узнать, что некоторое время с Кенни и Джимом сотрудничал известный клавишник David Paich, прославившийся в рядах Toto.

    A few years ago I met a long concert version of a little thing called Vahevala, which was composed and performed by Loggins & Messina, and was impressed because such original melodies (yes with a creak and flute) and the complex structures of songs on the gut. And somehow it is unexpected that the music of such a stylistics can be rolled up like a tube and stretch out in jam, go somewhere in thought, in whipping, generally somewhere in a different reality, and then suddenly emerge exactly where they left ... Already in the 80s, no one wanted to play and perform, and if he wanted to, he would not have managed ... all the best went into the antiques, and the filled radio, TV, store shelves and playlists in smartphones were not easy bad, but disgusting, monstrous ...

     Jim Messina, a former Poco and Buffalo Springfield participant, as you know, was working on an independent musical producer at Columbia Records before he met a young little-known singer, guitarist and Kenny Loggins composer. The guys became closer on the basis of the similarity of musical worldviews and in many respects, formed a duet, recorded a total of six studio and two concert albums, traveled many countries with concerts and peacefully stopped cooperation in 1976 in 2005 and 2009. There were a duet reinions, which can be read in more detail on the sites Logginsandmessina and Kennyloggins.

    The composition "Vahevala" (pronounced as "wa-he-va-la") entered the tracklist of the double concert album of the duet under the non-inventive name "On Stage" (1974). Kenny later recalled that he simply came up with this word and they not only really liked it, but also inspired the plot for the song. And before that, it (the words "vahevala") did not exist at all. Kenny says: "It attracted my attention, because it sounded like a certain mysterious area, so I presented it as an island from fantasy ... What is most remarkable for me, when I look back, it is how much joy is in this." The album "On Stage" was reprinted repeatedly in many countries.

     In which of the duet albums could you find a studio version of this song, I did not specify then. I only learned that in 1972, in a number of countries (USA, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Yugoslavia), the Vahevala / Same Old Wine minion was released. It was also nice to find out that for some time with Kenny and Jim, the famous David Paich keyboard player, famous in the ranks of Toto.
